World Suicide Prevention Day
This year, World Suicide Prevention day falls on Sunday the 10th – continuing to focus on the theme of creating hope through action. It was chosen as a call to action to encourage leaders around the world to put a greater focus on Mental Health and to remind them that suicide is preventable, rather than inevitable.
We at Larne Community Care Centre believe this statement to be correct. While we ourselves are not able to offer counselling services to the community, we are able to signpost you to those who can help. To get in touch with us regarding this, reach out to our Community Connections support line at 07762871103.
It’s always important to remember that you aren’t alone, and there are people around you who will help.
We’d like to offer some resources that may be of help:
- Samaritans – 116 123
- Lifeline – 0808 808 8000
- Men’s Action Network (Men) – 028 7122 6530
- Cara-Friend (LGBTQ+) – 0808 8000 390
- Age NI (Over 60’s) – 0808 808 7575

This year, the International Association for Suicide Awareness has suggested lighting a candle at 8pm on the 10th to not only remember those who have been lost to suicide but also to show support for the cause. An estimated 703,000 people a year take their own life. Lighting this candle could also be seen as a beacon of hope for those struggling – becoming a light in the dark.
